SLS South Beach
According to their website, SLS Hotels is the brainchild of Sam Nazarian, who has created a new paradigm in the luxury hotel experience that speaks to a global, sophisticated audience. Taking service and luxury standards from traditional 5-star hotels and injecting elements of creativity and community, SLS delivers a guest experience that seamlessly delivers service, style and fun. SLS Hotels are currently open in Beverly Hills, South Beach, and Las Vegas and are coming soon to New York City, The Bahamas, Seattle, and Philadelphia.
Last year the Imperium Lifestyle team decided to pop by and experience some of the culinary delights the restaurants at the SLS in South beach have on offer. According to SLS themselves they create a feast for the senses and after our two visits there we are hardly going to disagree. From the minds of Sam Nazarian, Philippe Starck, Chef José Andrés and Lenny Kravitz, you can experience dining at a luxury hotel that takes you on a surreal journey through Miami, Latin America, Asia and the Mediterranean. Once you experience it, you know! Whether you are after a creative cocktail of sophistication and playfulness or innovate sushi and robata dishes this is certainly a place to check out should you ever be in Miami.
We opted to visit their the world-renowned Bazaar restaurant by the James Beard award-winning Chef José Andrés. It offers a vibrant mix of sophisticated cuisine and a playful indoor-outdoor environment. The Bazaar menu blends Andrés’ Spanish heritage, tradition and ingenuity with influences from South Beach’s local Latin flavours. The scrumptious little snacks the hotel claims this restaurant provides is certainly an accurate description of what is on offer.
On our second visit a few days later we visited the Katsura restaurant which marries master Sushi Chef Katsuya Uechi’s fresh takes on Japanese classics with design icon Phillippe Starck’s sleek and sultry interiors. Katsura’s Japanese Kanji symbol “katsu” means “victory” or “to win” and it’s fitting considering the loyal following of Hollywood A-listers and Zagat critics the restaurant has won over with it’s inventive combination of Japanese and Californication cuisine. Exuberant servers welcome you “irashaimase” as you walk in and bid you “arigato gozaimas” as you leave and in between, original creations like the crispy rice with spicy tuna and award-winning cocktails like the burning mandarin delight your palate.
If / when you’re next in Miami be sure not to drive by glancing with intrigue at this special place, pop in and enjoy all that it has to offer.
